ARTIST STATEMENT: an only child raised in brooklyn, I loved nature and working with art materials. I wanted to be an artist and Though I intensely disliked elementary and high school, I loved reading, especially books about foreign cultures. I loved walking in the nearby Brooklyn Botanical Gardens and enjoyed the beautifully landscaped areas, the floral displays and catching frogs and tadpoles.
i Attended Queens College for Studio Art, began by painting abstractly and when accepted into their small M.F.A. Program, soon found the need to represent. I was unprepared to paint figure compositions from imagination,, I had to gather information. i did this by painted self portraits, still-lives and landscapes. composing figure compositions from imagination has been a consistent thread throughout my career. recently, I am more interested in direct observation and in the work of my contemporaries. Drawing, Color and Composition are my strengths. while my first solo show was in 1987 at Mountaintop Gallery in windham, I only began to exhibit regularly about 10 years ago.
