BIO: Brooklyn born, I earned my Masters in Painting, (Queens College, 1982), then I moved to the Hudson Valley, where rent was easier to afford, to paint from the landscape. My occupation is always painting, but for some years, I supported myself teaching Art at various levels. In 1991, when I and my Iranian-born painter husband (we met at the Queens College Art Library during Work-Study), simultaneously lost our teaching jobs, we decided to move to Iran. There, I continued to paint. I was very honored to have my painting chosen in the 2nd Biennial Juried Exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Tehran in 1993. Hired as one of two full time faculty members to open a new Fine Art Department in the University of Sistan and Baluchestan, in Zahedan, Iran, I taught students Drawing and Composition in native Farsi. In 2007, I returned to the Hudson Valley alone. I have my home and studio in Highland, and began regularly showing my work in 2012.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
As an only child, growing up in brooklyn, I loved nature and working with art materials. I wanted to be an artist. I intensely disliked elementary and high school, (probably because I had trouble paying attention), but enjoyed reading, especially books about foreign cultures.
I Often cut school. I would walk to nearby Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, enjoyed the beautifully landscaped areas, the floral displays and catching frogs and tadpoles.
i Attended Queens College for Studio Art, and then, was accepted into their small M.F.A. Program. Although I began painting abstractly, soon, I needed to represent people and landscape. I was striving to paint figure compositions from imagination, but to do that, I first needed to gather information, so I painted self portraits, still-lives and landscapes. For many years, my main interest was composing figure compositions from imagination.
Now, I am more interested in working directly from observation. contemporary Art, although I will always love more traditional painting, I am now interested in th work of my contemporaries.
Drawing, Color and Composition are my strengths. over the past several months, i have begun making a series of cardboard assemblages which emphasize these qualities.
Although I had my first solo show in 1987 at the Mountaintop Gallery in windham in 1987, I only began to exhibit regularly about 10 years ago.
